To answer your first question, it's called "PAUL'S-boe". Named after Paulsbo, Norway. But misread by the Territorial Postmaster... and the town has officially been "Poulsbo" ever since. [Or so the story goes.]

Because of the snow-peaked mountains and fjords reminiscent of Norway, Poulsbo became a popular place for Norwegian and other Scandinavian immigrants to settle.

This Nordic heritage is reflected in the style of downtown and in the friendliness and spirit of Poulsbo's residents and businesses of today.
